Which Australian government contracts expire in the next 90 days
Every government contract has an end date, and an end date is a signal: the agency will either renew the incumbent quietly, or open the work back up to the market. We pulled every federal award on AusTender ending in the next 90 days to see where that second case is concentrated.
The headline numbers
Of the 122,599 distinct federal contracts on record in AusTender’s award history, 7,371 have an end date falling in the next 90 days — 13,525 cumulative through the next 180.

Where it’s concentrated
Expiries aren’t spread evenly. Defence alone — the buyer in amber — accounts for 34.7% of every federal contract ending in this window; the next four busiest buyers are shown for scale.

What kind of work it is
Across every buyer in the window, the single largest category is Management, business & administrative services, at 35.2% of the 90-day set.

What this means if you bid into these agencies
A contract nearing expiry doesn’t guarantee a re-tender — some are extended or rolled onto a panel without a fresh notice. But an incumbent whose term is ending is exactly the kind of signal that’s easy to miss scanning a portal by hand and easy to catch by querying the award history directly, which is the whole reason we built this list.
